YV Team Spotlight: One World United

16-year old Anuj, a student at the Chantilly school, has some big plans for himself and the world. His goal is to educate the world, one student at a time. In 2007 Anuj helped lobby for the Education for All Act. The experience convinced him of the importance of making education a possibility for all children. Soon he and some of his friends got together to start their own Venture- One World United- that has mobilized their school and community to stand up for education worldwide.




For their first project the team identified a school in Southern India whose students had very few school supplies to support their education. With the help of friends and teachers they organized a donation drive within their school and collected 40 backpacks as well as many other school supplies. Each backpack was filled with new school supplies like pens, pencils, notebooks, and markers and taken by one team member to the school in India. The effect the small donation had on the school was huge! This was the first donation the school had ever received.




After the success of their first project Anuj and his team are now organizing many more events in their school to spread their message. They want everyone in their school to know that anyone can create positive change in the world. When Anuj graduates next year he hopes to open a new chapter of One World United in college so that he can keep making a difference.
