Miranda is a ninth grade student in Cleveland who has a simple philosophy. She believes that by replanting the Earth’s trees we can rebuild our planet and so she along with seven other teen volunteers decided to start Project Replant and Rebuild. Along with her team Miranda has worked with kids from four different schools in Ohio, teaching them how to be stewards of the environment. Together they work to plant tree saplings all across the cities school grounds. So far this year they have planted a total of 13 trees! Their other projects include Beach Clean up’s, Bio-Blitz (a search for all living organisms in the area, including a fox snake!), and Gardening Programs. The aim is to inspire kids to love the planet.
Recently, Miranda along with team member Khadijia travelled to Ottawa, Canada for the Second International Symposium on Biodiversity. Here they leaned more about biodiversity and climate change. Inspired by what they saw at the symposium they are now working to draft a Youth Accord, a document that tells the world what youth want to see happen to our biodiversity. They hope to present this document at The Convention on Biological Diversity(http://www.cbd.int) to be held in Japan next year. Ask Miranda what her dreams for the future are and she says, "My lifelong dream is to become a zookeeper and to save the rainforest from deforestation. I have very big dreams"
