Bill Gates, Batman, and Polio

During an interview with Bill Gates about his recently announced goals to eradicate polio, Jon Stewart compares the Microsoft mogul to the one and only Batman. Both are billionaires, both have a philanthropic streak... Even if the parallels end there, its a comparison worth consideration!

The Gates Foundation has a bold goal: eradicate polio. In his recent letter, Gates announced his commitment to seeing this goal through with a Decade of Vaccines. Focusing primarily on four developing countries, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, and India, where polio remains actively present, the Gates Foundation and its partners will work to inoculate children against the disease.

Since the development of the polio vaccine in 1955, the disease has virtually disappeared from developed countries. But one case anywhere threatens anyone, everywhere. With a united vaccination campaign, polio could be the second disease eradicated. It will take much investment into global health, but it is possible.
