A Proud Moment for Youth Venturer Yasmine Arrington

Today's post written by YV Intern Rhia Bakshi.

At Youth Venture, we’re all about celebrating the success and accomplishments of our Venturers. Last week, Youth Venturer Yasmine Arrington made us proud when she won the Redskins annual college scholarship in recognition of her extraordinary venture.

Yasmine presented her idea to Youth Venture at a panel in Washington D.C. last year. Her venture, ScholarCHIPS, is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to raising college funds for children of incarcerated parents in her community. Yasmine’s passion for the cause stems from her personal experience of having an incarcerated parent. Upon being exposed to the lack of avenues open to children like her, Yasmine decided to take action by engaging her community in the cause.

Since its launch, ScholarCHIPS has employed several creative means to fundraise, including letter-writing campaigns and charity runs. In a short span of time, Yasmine was able to raise 5000 dollars that helped high school seniors in her area attend college. The $25,000 Redskins scholarship will be dedicated to Yasmine’s college education at Elon University, where she begins in the fall.

Through her venture, Yasmine has exhibited not only her entrepreneurial drive, but also her genuine passion for social change. Her growing success as a young entrepreneur embodies YV’s belief in the potential of youth-led change and reiterates our vision of an Everyone a Changemaker world.

We'd like to hear from you! How has your Venture grown? Has your Venture been recognized in the community? Share your stories with us by sending YV Staff a message at yvfellowship@youthventure.org.

This is my first time seeing this article. Thank you so much for the follow up. We are working now to put out the ScholarCHIPS application for 2011-2012. Last years we raised almost $10,000, which is 1/3 of our goal of $30,000. Fearless Future got a $7,000 grant to promote/advertise for ScholarCHIPS. I have my own blog now--you can follow ScholarCHIPS as well as my progress in college--yasminearrington.blogspot.com
