One All-Star Team

A sports team is a group of athletes united by the love for a game. The 2011 All-America Service team is a pack of 15 ambitious young people committed to serving their communities and the nation.

Six Youth Venturers made the cut for this team, a prestigious recognition by Parade Magazine and generationOn. Nominated by Parade readers, the group of rockstar high schoolers were awarded for their service in 5 areas: economics, the environment, health, community, and education. All were recognized in a two-day award ceremony in Washington, D.C. where they met impressive public figures, such as Secretary of Education Arne Duncan; toured the Capitol; and learned about creating a compelling media pitch from experts in the field. But best of all were the new connections made between like-minded youth. Changemakers unite!

Meet the Youth Venturers who made the team!

Jonny Cohen invented GreenShields, polycarbonate shields for school buses that increase aerodynamic efficiency and cuts both carbon emissions and fuel costs.

Dylan Mahalingam works to raise money for a school in Kenya with Under the Acacia.

Benjamin McMullen's passion for the preservation of wetlands in his hometown of Ohio led to his founding of groups that teach kids about the environmental activism.

Charles Orgbon uses his nonprofit, Greening Forward, to teach school children about recycling and environmental action around the country.

Jordan Schwartz turned her love for theater and her knack for languages to launch the Children's Bilingual Theater in Atlanta, Georgia.

Rujul Zaparde has built 31 wells in India with this nonprofit, Drinking Water for India. He'll return to India this summer work at building 15 more.
