On Fridays, we close out the week with some brilliant ideas worth spreading. Get inspired--and share!
Today's post written by YV Intern Amanda Frank
Despite attending the most elite schools in India, Bunker Roy decided after graduation to leave everything behind to experience village life. He discovered an incredible wealth of knowledge and skills among rural people that is not recognized by the mainstream education system. He founded the Barefoot College to train women and men—many of them illiterate—to become dentists, architects, and solar engineers in their own villages.
Roy has redefined the term "professional" to include people who possess competence, confidence, and belief despite their educational background or social status. His committment to finding solutions from within the community has brought healthcare and solar energy to villages across the globe. Listen to his Ted Talk and get inspired!
